LIBRARY CURRICULUM
Kinder - Grade 5 classes are scheduled in the library once every week.
Library lessons for Kinder- Grade 5 support the topics and concepts being taught in students' classrooms on the particular week.
Middle School Language arts classes visit the library on an intermittent schedule, and I provide book talks in middle school classrooms.
LIBRARY ACTIVITIES
This year we are starting several new activities in the Laird library:
KINDER : Class charts will track students' weekly check in/check out records. Stickers will be given every week for returning a book At the end of each grading period, Students will receive a Laird GreenTicket* for every sticker they've earned.
GRADES 1-2: Class charts will track students' ability to explain to us one important fact/element/word/picture from their weekly book (these facts/elements/words/pictures will be related to the library curriculum for the week). Every 4 weeks, students will earn a Laird Green Ticket* for each explanation. To earn an overdue book pass, Grades 1-2 students will need to return their books on time for AN ENTIRE GRADING PERIOD( a sticker will be given each week). At the end of the year, 10 Laird Green Tickets* will be given to students who have 18 stickers or more.
GRADES 3-5: To help keep our library books in order, groups of students in each class may choose a shelf, and be responsible for shelving books on that shelf for the grading period. I will do random checks of the shelves during the grading period to determine which group at each grade level did the most accurate shelving/straightening job. The "winning" students will be treated to a pizza lunch in the library AND 10 Laird Green Tickets*. At the end of each grading period, all students in this grade band who return their books on time for THE ENTIRE GRADING PERIOD will earn 15 Laird Green Tickets*.
GRADES 6-8: Middle school students will earn 10 Laird Green Tickets* for each book review they write that is posted on this website. Students at this grade band who choose to "adopt" a Laird library shelf -- I will do random checks of the shelves during the grading period to determine which group at each grade level did the most accurate shelving/straightening job. The "winning" students will be treated to a pizza lunch in the library AND 10 Laird Green Tickets*.
Laird Green Tickets are tickets that Laird leopards earn for behavior that meets or exceeds expectations. Laird Green Tickets can be redeemed at our Laird store for prizes.
